FESTIVAL ENTRY CONDITIONS AND INFORMATION - 2010

The Festival is open to all amateur performers. Amateur is defined as a person who does not derive their main income as a performer/teacher either as an instrumentalist or vocalist – students excluded.

ENTRY FORM
Only one entry per form. Entry fee payment is to be included. Cheques can be made payable to Pilbara Music Festival Inc. Complete your entry form in full. ALL information requested, especially contact details and a copy of original music is required. An incomplete entry is not the responsibility of the Committee and may be returned. Performers are reminded that they may not perform the same piece in more than one item. It is a condition of entry that performers in AMEB Grade items do not enter a piece of lower standard than required. Please refer to your AMEB syllabus for correct grades. ENTRY LIMIT
A performer limit of 4 SOLOS may be played or sung per instrument (voice being an instrument).  The committee reserves the right to eliminate, amalgamate or create another section.

AGE LIMIT
The participants age as of 13 September 2010 shall be deemed to be the age of the entrant.  Solo performers may be expected to enter one age category only.  Any exceptions need to be discussed with the Coordinator.

TIME LIMIT
The time allocated for each category (as per Schedule headings) is important for the smooth programming and running of the festival. Performers are to be exact as to the length of each item. Time limits set in the schedule are maximum time allowed and MUST be strictly adhered to. If your performance or CD backing exceeds the time limit please confer with the committee.

PROGRAMMING
Consideration may be given to specific timetabling requests but cannot be guaranteed. Performers will not be able to change their allocated performance time. There may be a missed performance opportunity at the end of each festival day but only if time permits.

MUSIC
Scores and original music script:  It is the responsibility of all entrants of the Pilbara Music Festival to ensure that music used for a performance complies with copyright laws. You must perform from an original copy of music. Where the Festival Committee believes that copyright laws are being broken the music in question will not be allowed. A photocopy of your music (and CD copy if applicable) must be submitted with the entry form. This copy will be retained for the Adjudicator and then destroyed, in keeping with the Copyright Guidelines. After closing date music may not be changed.  Music and Lyrics are to be suitable for family and public audience entertainment.

COPYRIGHT
As noted above, performers are to use original music and provide one photocopy to the committee for the adjudicator. Should there be a delay obtaining your original music, permission may be obtained from the Publishers to use a photocopy till the music arrives. SCHOOL CHOIRS
For Set Piece school choir items, tape/CD backing will not be permitted.  Rehearsal with the Accompanist can be arranged. Where the Item states “Primary” or “Secondary”, these are defined as Primary being up to school Year 7, Secondary being up to school Year 12.

CD BACKING
CD backing (without melody) will be permitted for instrumental Jazz/Popular, Vocal Popular Song and Open Choir categories only.  A $2 fee for each CD performance will be charged.  A CD copy of the backing item is to be presented with entry form. This copy will be destroyed post festival. Amplifier volume setting will be at the discretion of the Committee.

ACCOMPANIST
An official accompanist will be available.  Music for the accompanist is to be forwarded with entry. Any rehearsals and fees are to be negotiated directly with the Coordinator on 0407 991 227.  Rehearsal times available 5th to 7th September. Schools will be allocated rehearsal time on Monday 7th September as requested.

BAROQUE / CLASSICAL / ROMANTIC / 20th CENTURY
One Movement only. No repeats. Da Capo only.

JAZZ STYLE / POPULAR
Performers are encouraged to embellish the harmonic, rhythmic and melodic bass of the tune, according to their taste.

OWN CHOICE
Refers to music chosen from any period, including: Medieval, Renaissance, Impressionists, Contemporary… (Music and Lyrics are to be suitable for family and public audience entertainment.)

MUSICAL THEATRE
Entertainment performance is required.  Any song from a musical or light operetta is acceptable.  Performers are to incorporate costume and may include simple choreography and dialogue into their performance. This class will be judged for its ‘all round entertainment’ value.

CHORAL RECATION
Clear diction & entertainment required. Dialogue is to be suitable for general audience and contain no inappropriate language or actions. Prose/verse are acceptable. Vocal choir harmony backgrounds are acceptable.

FINALE CONCERT
The Adjudicator, Accompanist & Committee/Coordinator will invite a selection of award winners to perform at the concert, to be held on Sunday 12th September.

AWARDS
Perpetual trophies, Gold, Silver and Encouragement awards will be decided and awarded by the Adjudicator, in consultation with Accompanist.  The Committee will not be involved in the award selection. All performing students under 18 are eligible for the financial awards.

PHOTOGRAPHY
No flash cameras are to be used during a performance. Copyright permission must be obtained to record/video any performance.

LIABILITY
No Liability will be accepted by the Pilbara Music Festival Inc for any injuries or damage to property sustained by any person participating or attending the Festival. Participants and performers are asked to accept responsibility for their instruments and personal well being.
